Story Time

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

by Clement Clarke Moore
or Henry Livingston

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;

And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,

Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!

On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!

To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!

Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,

So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,

With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof

The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,

Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,

And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;

A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,

And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;

He had a broad face and a little round belly,

That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,

And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,

And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."

How to Study for Finals My Way

So I felt that I studied very well for my finals and feel compelled to tell you how I do it.

1. Take notes all during the semester and organize them in order.

2. Hi-Lite the most important parts of your notes so you can glance at them quickly before the test.

3. Attend Study sessions. (These really help because more than likely they can remember certain questions on the exam itself and will give it to you)

4. Do the study guide they supply for you (Again, may have some sample questions or similar format as exam).

5. Cram with a friend in the same class because two brains are better than none...oops...one!!

6. Get a good night sleep before and a good breakfast!

7. Be on Time!! (A given)

I can guarantee that you will do well on your exams if you do it this way. PROMISE!

Liars all go to Hell

In a recent experience involving lying, I have felt led to share about the negative effects of lying. A few days ago I had told my parents a lie that i had turned an application for volunteering into the teacher in charge when i actually did not. They have been telling me lately that I have been very forgetful and that is unlike me...which it is. But anyways, yeaterday i started to feel guilty that I had lied and was going to tell them the truth...but guess what...I forgot. So today at school, I get a text from my mom asking me "Did u turn in your youth 2 youth form? She doesn't have it! Love, Mom" and I basically flipped out!! OH CRAP...I was caught. So I called her and said I did not (because I did not want to lie AGAIN). She said she was disappointed and hung up. I CRIED while I was driving home. Disappointment, to me, is worse than anger. They cannot trust me anymore. PLUS, on top of that I got the winter dance , phone, iPod, DVD player, CDs, Radio taken away and had to study ALL weekend, do the laundry and clean the house. NOT FUN!!!! Please do not lie. The consequences suck! I even found a Bible verse that scared me. It is Revelation it said that God hates liars and that he sends them all to the fiery pits of hell.....um NO THANKS!!!! I will post the real verse soon...all I am saying is that you should not lie...EVER!!! Hell does not sound like fun.

UH-OH!!

So....I just got an email from the Head Math Coordinator at the college I go to and she said that the Calc class I signed up for WON'T HELP ME!!!! Um....what am I supposed to do now....ugh.....I hate POST SECONDARY! It is the biggest waste of your time!!! UGH!
